Sambalpur: The Election Commission of India (ECI) today cleared the deck for the construction of two 6-lane flyovers and other civil works in Sambalpur district when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in force.

The civil works are to commence after the signing of an Agreement and declaration of an appointed date.

According to an official source, the construction of a 6-lane flyover (with 40 numbers of 25m span X 6m vertical clearance) including RE wall approaches with flexible pavement in the elephant corridor of Angul-Sambalpur section of NH-42 (presently NH-55) at Km 202.533 in the state of Odisha is to begin soon on EPC mode. Agreements for the civil works will be inked following the ECI approval.

The civil work under Angul-Sambalpur section is to be carried out at a cost of around Rs 202 Crore.

Similarly, the construction of another 6-lane flyover at Ainthapali junction and a 2-lane railway over-bridge (ROB) (LHS) on NH-53 (formerly NH-6) in Sambalpur district will begin on EPC mode under NH (O).

The civil works under Ainthapali junction as well as railway over-bridge on NH-53 are to be carried out at a total cost of Rs 374.17 Crore.

Worth mentioning, the ECI said in its accordance order issued to the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways that the Commission has no objection from MCC angle for signing Contract Agreements and commencement of work for the two projects in Sambalpur district.

However, the Commission emphasised that no undue publicity of the projects be done.
