In a major haul flying squad of the Excise department, today seized cannabis and marijuana estimated to be worth over Rs 22 lakh during a raid on a godown in Brahmapur area under Pipili police station limits in Odisha’s Puri district.

Two persons have been arrested in this connection.

The flying squad during the raid in wee hours today seized four tonnes of cannabis (bhang) packed in 100 bags and 40 kilos of marijuana (ganja) packed in two bags.

Those arrested by the Excise department officials have been identified as Sudarshan Nanda (26) and Smruti Ranjan Pani (25). However, Sura Nanda, father of Sudarshan and said to be the kingpin of the contraband trade has absconded.

The arrested were forwarded to court in Puri after being interrogated at the Excise department’s office at CDA in Cuttack.

A team of over 20 officials of the Excise department led by DSP Harischandra Sethi conducted the raid.
