Contractor shot dead on NH-16 in Odisha

Cuttack: A contractor was shot dead by two unidentified assailants near Chandeswar on National Highway-16 in Tangi area here in the district.

The deceased person has been identified as Ramesh Rout, a resident of Radhamohanpur village under Tangi police limits. He was working as a contractor in Bengaluru.

According to reports, the 50-year-old Ramesh accompanied by two friends — Dilip Surjit and Gangadhar Subudhi, both from Mundal village — had visited a dhaba to relish food on Sunday evening. After having dinner while the trio was returning to home on a motorcycle, two bike-borne miscreants suddenly opened fire at the contractor, who was sitting behind his friends on the two-wheeler, near Chandeswar area.

The victim’s associates immediately rushed him to Tangi Community Health Centre (CHC), where he was declared dead.

On receiving information, local police reached the hospital and seized the body. One friend of the deceased has been detained for the investigation into the case.
