‘Contractors leaving road work incomplete in Odisha will be blacklisted’

Bhubaneswar: Contractors who have been engaged in Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and left the road work halfway will be blacklisted, said Rural Development Minister Susanta Singh in the State Assembly today.

Replying to a query asked by Mahakalapada MLA Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, the Minister informed the House that action will be taken against contractors involved in poor road work or leaving the construction work midway.

The Centre has sanctioned funds for road construction under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in 16,241 villages of Odisha whereas 17,079 villages lack proper road connectivity, the Minister stated.

Raising the half constructed road issue in villages, the Mahakalapada MLA alleged that many contractors hired for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana are taking up projects of other departments without completing the road projects. He demanded that the State government should blacklist such contractors.
