Cop suspended for custodial death in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: A policemen was suspended today in connection with the custodial death of a 62-year-old man in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, police said.

Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma has placed Puspendu Sagar, EX-Inspector-In-Charge of Kosagumuda police station in the district, under suspension with immediate effect, a statement issued by the police state headquarters said here this evening.

During the period of suspension, Sagar will remain under the disciplinary control of DIG of Police, South Western Range, Koraput, it added.

Gobardhan Bindhani, a resident of Panjaraguda village near Dabugaon here, allegedly tortured by police. He was rushed to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital in a critical condition and from there shifted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam where he died on Sunday.

The police had picked up two persons including Gobardhan after conducting raids at Khutiguda weekly market on Saturday for their alleged involvement in illegal betting on cockfights.
