Keonjhar: At a time when the Odisha Police is striving to become an efficient and people friendly organization, a video of torture by the Inspector In-Charge of Patana Police Station, Keonjhar district raises many eyebrows.

In the video, the IIC of Patana PS, Sandhyarani Jena was seen kicking a youth and thrashing him with a stick inside the police station. Though other staff of the police station were present at the scene, they remained only mute spectators.

Sources said the youth along with three others were brought to the police station in connection with a land dispute on March 25. He was thrashed at the police station by the IIC before being forwarded to court.

After the video of the torture went viral, Keonjhar SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra directed Ghatgaon SDPO to probe the matter.

The youth, who is now out on bail, said, "Police took me to the police station and then tortured. I am the sole bread earner in my family. Since March 25, they have been suffering a lot. I want justice now.”
