Bhubaneswar: An Inspector of Police who was in news for allegedly misbehaving with the then Keonjhar Sadar MLA and now Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has been transferred, a little over two months after the incident.
The IIC identified as Trinath Sethy has been transferred by the Police Establishment Board of state police from Keonjhar to Gajapati. The official notification which was issued today has become a topic of discussion for many.
In his place, Amit Kumar Bhuyan has been transferred from Bhadrak. The Inspectors of Police have been transferred keeping in view the vacancy position, administrative requirements and interest of public service, the office order read.
Sethy was the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Keonjhar Sadar police station. He had allegedly misbehaved with then Keonjhar MLA Mohan Charan Majhi during an agitation in May this year. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Majhi later became the Chief Minister of Odisha after BJP won 78 Assembly seats of the total 147 in the 2024 polls.
As per the allegations, some women of Keonjhar Sadar area had blocked the National Highway-20 to protest against shortage of drinking water in their locality.
Sethy allegedly called the agitators to the police station to find a solution to the issue. On being informed, Majhi too reached the police station but Sethy allegedly asked the former to leave the place as the model code of conduct (MCC) was in force for the polls.
The IIC allegedly misbehaved with Majhi after he refused to leave the police station. Protesting the misbehaviour, Majhi along with the locals had staged a sit-in in front of the police station.
Majhi had then alleged that the IIC was acting as an agent of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and sought his immediate transfer from Keonjhar Sadar police station.
