Udala: Two armed robbers were nabbed by Odisha police this evening, moments after the duo looted a jewellery shop. In the dacoity bid, a salesman was critically injured after he was shot at.
A team of seven motorcycle-borne miscreants lobbed a crude bomb at the jewellery shop situated near Thana Chhak in the sub divisional town in Mayurbhanj district. After entering inside the Kalinga Jewellers, the anti-socials asked the salesman identified as Sukanta Behera to open the locker. When the loyal employee refused to give in, they opened fire at him. Behera sustained bullet injury in the chest.
The injured was rushed to to the sub divisional hospital here where is condition is said to be serious.
According to sources, Behera was shifted to Sri Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital, Baripada.
After the looters decamped with the booty, local police was informed who swung into action.
Sources said, the cops alerted the police stations around the town to apprehend them.
After blocking and frisking of vehicles at several points, the criminals were nabbed at Chhatrapur under Raj Berhampur police limits by Kaptipada police.
Notably, the jewellery shop owner Kamalakanta aka Kuna Rana is a reputed businessman and is also a bus operator.
Locals staged a road blockade and burnt tyres alleging deteriorating law and order.
