Cops nab kidnapper after exchange of fire in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Police today arrested a person, who had allegedly kidnapped a youth, in Khetrajpur area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district. He has been identified as Amit Sahu, a notorious criminal.

According to reports, Sahu had abducted a 22-year-old boy of the area and demanded a ransom of Rs 60,000 from the latter’s father. Family members of the abductee lodged a complaint in this regard with Khetrajpur police, following which cops launched an investigation and ascertained Sahu’s whereabouts.

A police team raided a place near Gudeswar Baba temple, where Sahu was present. Realising the arrival of cops, he opened fire at them. In retaliation by police, he sustained bullet injuries on his left leg.

Sahu has been admitted to VIMSAR in Burla for treatment. The abductee, who was injured after being thrashed by the kidnapper, has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

A gun and bullets have been seized from the possession of the accused, police sources said, adding that more than eight criminal cases are pending against him at various police stations.
