Cops raid edible oil godown in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: An edible oil godown was raided by police in Badambadi area in Cuttack city here today for alleged adulteration.

Two persons were detained including the owner of the godown.

Police seized the oil containers of different brands including Double Hiran, Dalda, Freedom and the machines used for packaging the oil during the raid.

“We caught the owner of the godown on charges of mixing chemicals into edible oil. He is purchasing mustard oil and other varieties of oil from different locations. The godown was used to adulterate the oil and supply those in Cuttack and adjacent to it the city,” said a police official.

The person, who was supplying the wrappers to the godown, will be nabbed soon, he said.

If required the sample of the oil will be sent for examination of oil, he added.

Notably, police is conducting surprise raids at various locations on receiving the information where the godowns are engaged in adulterating the edible oil and supplying those to the retailers.
