Cops to check circulation of fake news on social media during twin polls in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The police in Odisha today held a coordination meeting with their counterparts in three neigbouring states ahead of the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the state.

Senior police officials of Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand participated in the interstate coordination meeting through videoconference.

The police officials held deliberations for smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha as well as Assembly elections.

The meeting put emphasis on proper security arrangements in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas of the four states, strict checking of vehicles at border points, action against illegal liquor and drugs trade and adequate mechanism for tracking money flow during the twin polls.

The meeting also emphasized upon concrete efforts to check circulation of fake news on social media during the polls.

Director General of Police (In-Charge) in Odisha Arung Sarangi, Additional DGP (Headquarters) RK Sharma, Director Intelligence Soumendra Priyadarsi, Additional DGP (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar and Additional DGP (Operation) S Dev Datta among others participated in the meeting.

In a related development, a high-level meeting was held at the Lok Seva Bhawan (Secretariat) here for deployment of central as well as state armed police personnel during the upcoming elections.

Chief Secretary PK Jena, Home department Secretary Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Chief Electoral Officer Nikunj Dhal and the DGP among others were present at the meeting.
