Coronavirus: Functioning of Odisha HC restricted to urgent matters

Cuttack: In view of the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), Acting Chief Justice and Judges of the Orissa High Court today directed that functioning of the court from March 17 shall be restricted to urgent matters and routine matters will not be taken up for the time being till the threat persists.

“Only those cases which are urgent in nature and cannot await may be mentioned before the Deputy Registrar (Judicial) during the mention hour. Deputy Registrar (Judicial) shall place those memos before the Hon’ble Court for obtaining instruction regarding listing of the same,” an official notification of the High Court said.

Personal appearance of the parties unless the same is indispensable would not be insisted and no adverse order will be passed for absence of any lawyer or litigant on account of illness, the notification said.

Members of the bar have been requested not to recommend issuance of visitor passes during this period and to avoid congregation inside and outside the court rooms.
