‘Corrupt’ OSSC employee’s wife, brother-in-law booked in DA case 

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance registered a case against wife and brother-in-law of Odisha Staff Selection Commission’s (OSSC) staff Biranchi Narayan Sahoo in connection with a disproportionate assets case

The duo was booked for allegedly cooperating the crorepati Private Secretary to a Member of OSSC in accumulating unaccounted cash, informed a senior Vigilance official today.

Meanwhile, the corrupt OSSC official has been sent to a jail following his arrest in DA case.

“The unaccounted transactions made at residence of Biranchi Sahoo at Kolathia locality in Bhubaneswar will be under purview of investigation. If required, he will be taken on a remand for interrogation in connection with the case,” the top Vigilance official stated.

Yesterday, the the Special Vigilance Court had rejected Biranchi’s bail application and sent him to a judicial custody for a period of 14 days.

Biranchi landed in a Vigilance net following raids at multiple locations in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Friday on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

During searches, the sleuths of anti-corruption department traced movable and immovable properties worth about Rs 3.79 crore belonging to Biranchi. The officials recovered cash of Rs 25 lakh, two double-storey buildings at Niladri Vihar, two single-storey buildings at Bhakti Vihar, 14 plots in Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Khordha, one four wheelers, two two-wheelers, insurance deposits worth over Rs 56 lakh, and gold ornaments worth Rs 60 lakh.

However, the total cost of disproportionate assets was about Rs 3.51 crore, which is 268 per cent of his known sources of income, the Vigilance said in a statement.

Besides, bank slips indicating huge cash deposits in bank accounts were recovered as well. Recruitment related applicant admit cards and other incriminating documents were also recovered during the searches.

A case has been registered in this connection under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.
