Couple arrested in Odisha chit fund scam

Bhubaneswar: The EoW of Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested a couple in connection with multi-crore chit fund scam.

The couple identified as Kalakanhu Bisoi and wife Monalisa Senapati of Nimapada area in Puri district are accused of duping 10,000 depositors of money to the tune of around Rs 100 crore through a chit fund firm Kalakanhu Advertising Pvt Ltd.

The EoW forwarded the couple to a special court of chit fund following arrest.

According to reports, Bisoi had founded the Kalakanhu Advertising Pvt Ltd in 2014-15. His wife was the director of the firm. The couple had collected Rs 100 crore from 10,000 depositors alluring them of high returns. After running the office for few months, Bisoi and his wife disappeared.

Few depositors lodged complaint against Bisoi and his wife for duping them of crores. During course of investigation, the crime branch collected enough evidence against the couple and arrested them yesterday.

Others associated with the chit fund firm will be arrested soon, informed the crime branch.
