Sonepur: A couple, who were working as daily wagers, died today morning as a nearby wall caved in on them during the cleaning of a drain at Grid Colony in Sonepur town of Subarnapur.
The deceased man was identified as Manu Mirdha and his wife as Durlabh Mirdha. The couple belonged to Radhadeipur village of Badakhamar panchayat under Subalaya police limits in the district.
According to a police source, the daily wager couple was engaged to clean the drain. Unfortunately, the nearby wall which had run down collapsed on them leaving the couple critically injured.
Some locals with the help of fire services personnel rescued the duo and rushed them to a hospital for treatment in critical condition. However, doctors at the health facility declared them ‘dead’.
On being informed, police reached the hospital, seized the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem, reports of which are awaited. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe.
