Couple killed, 4-yr-old son critical in road mishap in Odisha’s Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: A couple died while their four-year-old son sustained critical injuries in a road mishap in Jagatpur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district today.

The deceased has been identified as Aniruddha Jena (40) and his wife Ritali Jena (35) of Purana village under Salipur police limits in Cuttack.

The incident took place on Cuttack-Chandabali road when the couple along with their son was returning home after visiting a shrine in Sakhigopal area of Puri district in the evening.

The couple and their son sustained grievous injuries after a speeding truck hit their bike near Nrusingha Bazar under Jagatpur police limits, sources said.

The locals rescued the trio and rushed them to a private hospital. However, the husband-wife duo was declared dead on arrival by the doctor. Their son was shifted to private hospital after his condition deteriorated, sources added.

The police have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident. “The truck fled the spot soon after hitting the bike. Steps are being taken to track it,” said a police officer.
