Court rejects Odisha Crime Branch plea to handcuff Sabyasachi

While fixing July 30 as the date for producing Odisha’s top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda before it, the SDJM Court Nayagarh rejected Odisha Crime Branch’s appeal on Monday to handcuff him while bringing him from Brahmapur jail to Nayagarh and back, sources said.

The SDJM refused to accept Crime Branch’s argument that Sabyasachi’s case was a rarest of the rare kind and observed that since trained armed guards will be accompanying a disarmed accused there is no need to handcuff him during his to and fro journey between Brahmapur and Nayagarh, sources added.

The Nayagarh SP and other senior police officers reviewed the security situation within the SDJM court premises on Monday.
