The Additional District Sessions Judge Court Friday rejected the bail plea of US national William Michel, who was arrested by the commissionerate police on September 18 for crrying eight live cartridges in his luggage at the Biju Patnaik Airport here.

The court rejected Michel’s bail plea on the ground that the investigation is still at the preliminary stage and the ballistic report of the seized cartridges is yet to come.

The court also directed Paradip-based ONGC that Michel was scheduled to visit on September 18 to submit a report on his itinerary to the state government.

Michel had filed a bail petition in the Bhubaneswar District and Sessions Court on September 24 after he was booked under the Arms Act, 1959.

Soon after his arrest, the police had sent the seized cartridges to the State Forensic Laboratory to study its composition and identify its manufacturer.

A two-member team of the American Citizen Services Unit at the US Consulate General in Hyderabad had visited the Jharpada Special Jail wlast Friday to collect details from the jailed US national.
