COVID-19: Cuttack Chhatra Bazar, Malgodown to remain open 24*7

Cuttack: While the one-week lockdown announced by the state Government is in force in five districts including Cuttcak and eight towns, Chhatra Bazar and Malgodown, the state’s two biggest wholesale markets for vegetables and groceries, respectively, here will remain open round-the clock.

“The traders and vegetables have agreed to open their shops for 24 hours in three shifts. The district administration has taken the decision to ensure availability of sufficient essential commodities for the public,” said an official.

Soon after the news spread, huge number of people rushed to the Chhatra Bazar to buy vegetables today despite the Government’s restriction on congregation of more than seven persons at a public places in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

On March 21, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced near-complete lockdown in five districts and eight towns for one week starting March 22 in first phase. The lockdown is in force in districts of Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Kendrapara and Angul and towns of Puri, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda , Balasore, Jajpur road and Jajpur town, Bhadrak.
