COVID-19 fallout: Odisha cancels UG, PG exams of varsities

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government cancelled the pending undergraduate and post graduate examinations of all the Universities in the State.

As per the decision taken at a video conferencing between the Vice Chancellors, Principals of  Autonomous Colleges and Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo, both the pending theory and practical examination of Final Year or Final Semester of undergraduate and post graduate courses were cancelled.

According to the proposals of the UGC, alternate evaluation methodology will be adopted for UG and PG students . It was decided in the meeting that results of the alternate evaluation will be declared by the end of August.

Marks of each subject will be calculated on basis of the following calculation: Internal Mark based on prescribed weightage + Average of marks obtained in all previous semesters/ years in the subject.

Students, who expect more marks than the marks obtained in the alternate evaluation, can appear for exams conducted by Universities and Autonomous Colleges in November 2020. Revised results of the exams will be published in December 2020.

As per the guidelines, students of final semester having one or two back paper, exams for those subjects are cancelled. Evaluation of back paper will be done on basis of Proportionate Quotient (P-Q) or other methods. Meanwhile, students having more than two back papers will have to appear for exams conducted by Universities and Autonomous Colleges. Schedule of such exams will be decided by the Universities and Autonomous Colleges.

It was also decided in the meeting that exams of medical courses will be held as per the schedule.

During the meeting many Vice Chancellors and Principals proposed to cancel the Final Semester exams of the UG and PG courses.

Worth mentioning, students of the Universities had been demanding cancellation of exams in view of the cancellation of classes and situation emerged out of COVID-19 pandemic.
