COVID-19: Here’re details of 103 new cases in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: COVID-19 tally in Odisha mounted to 1438 with 881 active cases after 103 new cases, the highest single day spike, were reported today, informed State Health & Family Welfare Department.

A total number of 3942 samples was tested on Sunday out which 103 were found positive for COVID-19. Of 103 cases, the highest number of 22 cases were reported from Deogarh district followed by Kendrapara (15) and Jagatsinghpur (10) districts.

According to Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department, Out of 22 cases in Deogarh district, 19 are in quarantine centres. Among 19 quarantinees, while 16 are Tamil Nadu returnees, 3 have travel history to Andhra Pradesh. The remaining 3 are local cases.

Source said that the three local cases included a COVID warrior (ASHA Worker), a teacher and a politician of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). With 22 fresh cases in the district, total count now reached 24 with 23 active cases.

In Kendrapara, 15 cases were reported today and all are in quarantine centres with travel history to West Bengal (7), Telangana (4), Gujarat (1), Tamil Nadu (1) and Karnataka (2).  The total cases in the coastal district rose to 55 of which 46 are active now and 9 have recovered from the disease.

Jagatsinghpur: Out of 10 cases, 8 persons have returned to Odisha from West Bengal and 2 are Tamil Nadu returnees. All were tested positive in quarantine centres. The positive cases are from Naugaon, Balikuda and Biridi. All 10 are asymptomatic and have been shifted to the KIIMS COVID hospital for treatment, informed Jagatsinghpur Collector.

With this, the total number of corona cases in Jagatsinghpur district increased to  41 with 36 active cases and 5 recovered cases so far.

Bhadrak: Eight cases were reported today in the district, of which 4 are West Bengal returnees, 2 Gujarat returnees and 1 each Telangana and Andhra Pradesh returnees. All the cases are in quarantine centres. Following 8 new cases, now the number in the district rose to 106 with 75 active cases and 31 recovered cases.

Today, 9 positive cases have been detected in Malkangiri district taking the total number in the tribal-dominated district to 19 with all active cases so far. Out of 9 cases, 8 were reported from quarantine centres and one is a local case. Among 8 quarantinees, 4 are Andhara Pradesh returnees, 2 Telangana returnees and 2 Tamil Nadu returnees. However, the authorities did not share details of lone local case.

The western Odisha district Balangir has now total 24 cases with 8 new cases reported today. According to I&PR Department, of 8 cases, 5 are Maharashtra returnees, 2 Gujarat returnees and 1 Chhattisgarh returnee. All the cases were reported from quarantine centres.

Moreover, 6 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Gajapati district. All the infected persons have travel history to Maharashtra and they are tested in quarantine centres. With this, the total number reached 10 with all active cases so far.

Koraput district has registered 6 fresh COVID cases today, of which all are Andhara Pradesh returnees. They were tested positive in quarantine centres. The number of cases in the district now stands at 7 with 6 active cases. One patient in the disrict has recovered so far.

The third worst-hit district Balasore today reported 5 fresh cases, of which 3 are Tamil Nadu returnees, 1 each has returned from West Bengal and Maharashtra. They were lodged in quarantine centres following their arrival to Odisha. With this, the total number surged to 133 of which 76 cases are active and 57 patients have recovered so far.

Similarly, 5 cases were reported from Khordha district today of which, Bhubaneswar has one positive case. The case in Bhubaneswar is a local, who is under home quarantine. The details of the case is yet to be shared by the authorities. Of remaining 4 cases in the district, 3 are Gujarat returnees and one has a travel history to Maharashtra. All have tested positive in quarantine centres. With this, the total number now mounted to 82 with 28 active cases. Total 51 patients have recovered from the disease in the district.

The red zone Ganjam, which tops the list with the highest number of positive cases in Odisha, has reported 4 fresh cases in the district today. Of 4 cases, two are in quarantine centres and another 2 are local cases. However, the authorities did not share about travel history of the fresh cases. With this, the total number of COVID positive cases increased to 353 of which 117 are active now and 233 patients have recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, five districts Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Kandhamal have reported 1 fresh case each today. According to I&PR Department, while one case in Jajpur district is a Surat returnee, the positive case in Keonjhar is a Maharashtra returnee, case in Mayurbhanj is an Andhra Pradesh returnee, one infected person in Dhenkanal district is a Chattisgarh returnee and one case in Kandhamal reported today is a Surat returnee. All the cases in the districts were tested in quarantine centres. With this, the total number of cases in Jajpur now rose to 240 (150 active cases), 12 in Keonjhar (8 active cases), 15 in Mayurbhanj (6 active cases), 4 in Dhenkanal (3 active cases) and 6 in Kandhamal (all active cases).
