COVID-19 hits Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup as one tests positive

Bhubaneswar: COVID-19 hit ongoing FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup-2021 here creating panic among organisers as well as players as one person tested positive for the virus.

Despite entry ban of audience into the Kalinga Stadium and all the matches are being held inside a bio-bubble, one COVID positive case was detected on December 3.

The infectee is a social media team member of the Sports and Youth Services Department, Odisha Government.

Worth mentioning that the Junior Hockey World Cup is being held behind closed doors due to COVID-19 pandemic. However, the mediapersons are allowed to attend the event under strict COVID-19 safety protocols.

With detection of the positive case, the organisers made RT-PCR test mandatory yesterday for all journalists covering the tournaments.

“The COVID test is being conducted every 48 hours. Now, it has been made compulsory after a member of social media team of Odisha Sports Department tested positive,” an official source said.

The 12th edition of FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup commenced from November 24, 2021 and scheduled to end on December 5.
