COVID-19 impact: Durga Puja to be held amid restrictions in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: Keeping in view the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Cuttack district administration today decided to allow conduct of Durga Puja at pandals amid restrictions in the district.

As there are chances of further increase in COVID-19 cases due to public or religious gathering, the administration will allow the Puja Committees to perform Durga Puja without decorations. At no cost, public congregation will be allowed at the puja pandals, informed Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani.

Those who do not adhere to the administration’s decision on Durga Puja will face action, the Collector added.

Earlier in the day, the Balubazaar Puja committee moved the Orissa High Court seeking the administration’s permission for the conduct of the puja.

It is believed that Durga Puja in the Cuttack city is a tradition of more than 500 years old.
