Jajpur: Following nationwide lockdown to fight novel coronavirus (COVID-19), hundreds of workers have been stranded on premises of a cement plant in Odisha's Jajpur district.
Reports said that as many as 400 workers from the states including Jharkhand, West Bengal and BIhar are stuck inside the campus of Ramco Cements plant at Haridaspur in Jajpur district, as they are not able to move outside due to 21-day lockdown clamped across the country.
The labourers alleged that they are not being provided proper food during lockdown.
Though the operation of plant has been shut, the labourers are struggling to avail food and essential items being stuck inside the factory.
Source said that the workers staged a protest on the premises of the plant demanding food for their survival. On receiving information, Dharmasala police reached the cement plant and discussed with the agitators.
Meanwhile, Tehsildar Sarojkanta Panda has raised the issue with the Ramco Cements management.
The official said that heĀ will meet the workers today. In this regard, the district collector has also been approached to intervene into the matter.
