COVID-19 lockdown extended in this Odisha district till June 30

Berhampur: In view of possible community transmission of novel coronavirus in red zone Ganjam during monsoon, the district administration today extended the lockdown till end of June.

The lockdown restrictions in Ganjam district will be in force from 12.00 pm to 7.00 am everyday till June 30, 2020, informed Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange today.

However, there will be relaxation for public for only 5 hours from 7.00 am to 12.00 noon everyday. The essential services will be available during the lockdown.

As directed by the State Government, the weekend shutdown will continue in the district prohibiting movement of public on roads.

The district will remain under complete shutdown every weekend till June 30, Kulange said.

Speaking to media, he said that around 2 lakh migrant workers have returned to Ganjam of which 1.5 lakh returnees have been put under home quarantine. The lockdown restrictions were extended in view of increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the district.

However, he denied evidence of community spread of COVID-19 in the district.

“The community transmission is yet to take place in the district. But, it can happen in future. Therefore, keeping the monsoon in view, the district administration has decided to keep the district under lockdown till June 30 to contain spread of further infections in the community,” the Collector added.
