COVID-19: LoP urges Odisha CM for free rice, pulses to non-NFSA, SFSS beneficiaries

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Legislative Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) Pradipta Naik has urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for free distribution of rice and pulses among the families not covered under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and State Food Security Scheme (SFSS).

Expressing concern over financial condition of poor families during lockdown enforced against COVID-19, Naik wrote to Patnaik that many non-NFSA and SFSS beneficiaries in the state are facing crisis during the pandemic.

He urged the CM to provide free rice and pulses under PDS to those households, who do not have ration card under NFSA and SFSS.

“The Centre has made certain relaxation in rules for use of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Fund to fight COVID-19 in the country. I request you to make arrangement by using these funds to provide free rice and pulses to those poor families, who are yet to avail ration cards,” Naik wrote.

He also requested to keep the list of non-NFSA and SFSS beneficiaries at panchayat offices for necessary use.
