Surat: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent ongoing nationwide lockdown, more than 200 migrant labourers from Odisha stranded in Surat of Gujarat are returning home in desperation.
Sources said the migrant labourers have left Surat in four buses for Ganjam. The returnees have got approval from Surat Collector Dhavalkumar Patel for their travel, sources added.
The Surat Collector has already informed Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange about the journey of Odia migrants, said sources.
The migrants reportedly arranged buses spending money from their own pockets to return to Ganjam.
In his reaction, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said the migrant labourers returning from Surat will be kept in the government quarantine facilities for 14 days. This apart, health teams will examine the condition of returnees, Kulange added.
