COVID-19 positive woman delivers baby boy in Odisha

Bhubaneswar:  In a good news amid the COVID-19 gloom, a COVID-19 positive woman gave birth to a baby boy at a private COVID hospital here. Condition of both the woman and the newborn is stated to be stable.

The woman  had returned from other state and was under quarantine at a temporary medical camp (TMC) in the state capital. On May 30, she was shifted to the COVID hospital. While her expected date was June 21, doctors at hospital planned to hold intervention till she becomes negative or goes into labour, whichever is earlier. Gynecology PG Residents Dr Nity and Dr Anuradha looked after the case in consultation with seniors

“Equipment, OT and personnel were kept ready at the COVID hospital to respond with normal or operative delivery. The patient started experiencing labour pain in the morning of June 1. Even though the patient had an earlier cesarean delivery, trial of normal delivery was considered a possibility on the merit of the case,” said the hospital sources.

“The woman delivered a healthy baby boy at around 3 pm on June 1.Both mother and child are doing well,”  sources added.
