COVID-19: Second phase sero survey in Odisha Capital in mid-August

Bhubaneswar: While there has been a spurt in COVID-19 cases, the Odisha government in collaboration with the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) will conduct the second phase random serological survey in Bhubaneswar in mid-August.

RMRC Director Sanghamitra Pati told media persons the second phase sero survey is crucial as the result will reflect the infection status of July. “Someone requires four weeks to get infected and develop antibodies and a complete immunity. That’s why we will conduct serological survey in phases,” added Pati.

On July 14, sero survey was conducted in Bhubaneswar and the result showed the infection status of June. Around 1.4% people in Bhubaneswar developed antibodies, she said.

After Puri and Bhubaneswar, the serological survey was kickstarted in Berhampur today.

Pati further informed the sero survey will be jointly carried out jointly by RMRC, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation and MKCG Hospital in 25 wards of Berhampur in random manner. The target sample in Berhampur is 2500. While 1500 samples will be collected from community, 1000 samples will be drawn from high risk groups, she added.
