Jagatsinghpur: In view of rapid spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) across Odisha, Jagatsinghpur district administration imposed section 144 in two temples for the famous religious event – Jhamu Jatra.
Section 144 will be clamped at Maa Sarala Temple at Kanakpur area and Maa Bhagabati Temple at Parahat for three days to avoid public gathering in view of ensuing Jhamu Jatra.
The prohibitory orders under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) will remain in force from April 12 to 14, 2020.
“There are sufficient grounds for proceeding U/S 144 CrPC and that immediate prevention is desirable and the situation if not properly checked immediately may lead to undesirable consequences,” stated an order by Jagatsinghpur District Magistrate Sangram Keshari Mohapatra today.
As per the order, gathering of more than 4 persons and social and ritual functions will be prohibited around the temples.
