COVID-19 surge: Central team to visit Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In view of surge in number of COVID-19 cases in some States, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has decided to send high level central teams to four severely affected States including Odisha to strengthen COVID-19 management activities.

The central teams will visit Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha – the States that continue to report high single-day spike in COVID cases and higher fatalities.

The team will review the COVID-19 situation and States’ efforts towards strengthening containment, surveillance, testing and efficient clinical management of the positive cases.

Besides, the team will also guide the States in effectively managing the challenges related to timely diagnosis and follow up action.

As per a release, each of the multi-sectoral teams will comprise of an epidemiologist and a public health expert.

It is to be mentioned that the COVID-19 tally has breached 1 lakh-mark in Odisha with 29,758 active cases and 492 deaths so far. Uttar Pradesh has the maximum number of active cases pegged at 54,666. While Chhattisgarh has registered 13,520 active cases and Jharkhand has 11,577 active cases.
