COVID-19 test kit glitch: Reports of 25 VSSUT students erroneous

Bhubaneswar: Three days after 25 students of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, Health Secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra today termed the test reports as false.

Mohapatra said, “Not a single student of VSSUT has tested positive for the virus. The test reports which had come out earlier were false as the antigen kits were faulty. When the same students underwent RT-PCR  test, their reports came negative.”

The test kits will be withdrawn and the Health Department will verify the same. Besides, the district administration is also likely  to withdraw the precautionary measures, including declaration of containment zone, informs sources.

After the students’ reports came out positive, authorities of the varsity had postponed the exams scheduled to begin from March 1 until further orders. Besides, Sambalpur Municipal Corporation had announced a shutdown in the VSSUT while 11 hostels of the university were declared containment zone.
