COVID-19 vaccine expected to reach Odisha this month: Govt

Bhubaneswar: Kickstarting the dry run for COVID-19 vaccination at Capital Hospital here, Health Department Additional Secretary Pradipta Mohapatra said the vaccine is expected to arrive in Odisha any day this month and the state has adequate equipment for the same.  

“The Oxford COVID-19 vaccine Covishield manufactured by Serum Institute of India (SII) was given clearance by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) yesterday. Keeping this in view, we expect the vaccine will arrive in the state any day this month,” he said.

Odisha is the only state where we are conducting dry run at 31 places-30 District Headquarters Hospitals (DHH) and the Capital Hospital here, Mohapatra asserted.

Elaborating the vaccination process, the official said physical verification of persons to be administered with the vaccine will be done. Once the verification completes, their records will be updated on the Co-WIN web portal. After that, they will be administered with the vaccine and will be kept under observation for 30 minutes before being discharged.

Those administered dummy vaccine today will  be registered as partially vaccinated in the portal, he added.

“Once arrives, the vaccine will be kept in the state vaccine store. Later, it ill be sent to two regional vaccine stores and later to district vaccine stores, from where vaccines will be transported to 1222 distribution points through ice lined refrigerators (ILRs),  Health and Family Welfare Department Director and Vaccine in-charge Bijay Panigrahi had said earlier yesterday .

The dry run will be conducted at 259 places in 116 districts throughout the country.
