COVID-affected Odisha youth needs ECMO treatment; Wife seeks aid

Bhubaneswar: 31-year-old Siddharth Shankar Mishra, who tied the knot merely four months ago, is battling COVID-19 at the SUM Ultimate Medicare here after being hospitalised on May 22. As his lungs were damaged, doctors have suggested for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) treatment. Siddharth’s wife Sonali has sought financial assistance for proper treatment of her husband.

Siddharth and Sonali, who got married in February, tested positive for the virus on May 16. While both were under home isolation, his condition deteriorated. He was subsequently admitted to the SUM Hospital here on May 22.

As Siddharth’s condition worsened, he was shifted to the Critical Care Unit of SUM Ultimate Medicare on June 14 and has been on ventilator support.

“The current financial requirement for ECMO treatment is around Rs one lakh per day excluding other charges. We need at least Rs 80 lakh for his further course of treatment,” said Sonali.
