COVID vaccination: Covaxin for Bhubaneswar, Covishield for rest in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: COVID-19  vaccine Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech will be administered to 9,000 beneficiaries in Bhubaneswar while AstraZeneca’s Covishield of Serum Institute of India (SII) will be given to shortlisted people in all other districts across the state, said Odisha Health Director and Vaccine In-charge Dr Bijay Panigrahi

As per Government sources, initially 1,92,555 out of 3, 38,777 healthcare workers shortlisted for first phase of the immunization drive in the state will be vaccinated. Highest 17190  healthcare workers will be vaccinated in Cuttack district followed by 15120 in Ganjam and 10710 in Mayurbhanj.

In Bhubaneswar, the vaccination drive will be conducted at five session sites: Capital Hospital, Unit-4 Urban Community Health Centre, SUM Hospital, KIIMS Hospital and BMC Hospital.

“Yesterday, 4.08 lakh doses of Covishield had reached Odisha while 20,000 doses of Covaxin arrived today. Around 50 % of the vaccine will be used in first dose. Total 1,92,555 beneficiaries will take the first dose of the vaccine shot in the state. The second dose will be given after 28 days,” informed Dr Bijay Panigrahi .
