COVID vaccination of kids in Odisha from Jan 3: Check eligibility & other details

Bhubaneswar: With COVID-19 vaccination of children aged between 15 and 18 years set to begin on January 3, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Director Bijay Panigrahi today informed about the eligibility, process and arrangements for the inoculation drive.

Briefing mediapersons, the senior health official said 15 to 18-year-old children, who were born on or before January 1, 2007, are eligible to get the vaccine shot from January 3. They can register themselves both online and on-site for the same.

Regarding arrangements, Panigrahi said venues for vaccination of the children will be selected keeping in view the prevailing the situation.

“If possible, beneficiaries of the said age group will be administered the vaccine at different places. Else, separate queues for children will be created at the same centres, where the vaccination drive is currently underway. The time gap between the two doses will be 28 days,” he said.

The official further said it is not clear yet which vaccine will be used for the precautionary dose to senior citizens. People aged 60 years and above with comorbidities should consult a doctor before visiting vaccination centre to take the jab. The precautionary dose will be given to the beneficiaries based on comorbidities certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner. 

The precautionary dose will be given after a gap of nine months of the second dose, in case of senior citizens, he added.
