Earlier, the State Government had placed an order of 3.77 crore doses of Covishield and 10.34 lakh doses of Covaxin for 1.93 crore people aged between 18 and 44 years and requested the two manufacturers — SII and Bharat Biotech — to supply the same at the earliest.
It is worth mentioning that Covishield vaccine is being administered to beneficiaries across the State except Bhubaneswar.
The third phase COVID vaccination programme covering people aged between 18 and 44 was scheduled to begin on May 1. However, the drive was delayed due to shortage of Covishield vaccine in the State. The immunisation drive for the beneficiaries above 18 years commenced on May 3 only in Bhubaneswar after Bharat Biotech supplied the first consignment of Covaxin vaccine on May 1.
