Covid vaccination: Over 40 lakhs in 15-18 age group get first jab

New Delhi: Over 40 lakhs between 15-18 age group received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on the first day the vaccination drive for children. This was announced by Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health and Family Welfare in a tweet today.

The vaccination data have been compiled till 8 PM today.

The vaccination programme has been carried out in consultation with schools at hospitals and health centres. Apart from this, schools and other educational institutions have been used as vaccination centres. Those born in 2007 and before are eligible to get the jab.

On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that vaccination for 15-18 years age group will begin from January 3.

Third dose of vaccine will be administered to health workers, frontline workers and vulnerable senior citizens from January 10.

Corbevax and Covovax vaccines have received clearance from the authorities in the country and are likely to be used as booster doses.
