COVID +ve elderly man ends life in Odisha; infected wife succumbs in hospital

Bijepur: A very heart-rending incident was reported from Bijepur area in COVID-hit Bargarh district where an elderly couple infected with the deadly virus died within 24 hours.

According to reports, Arjun Meher (73) of Satabandha village under Bijepur Block in Bargarh district and his wife Chahal Meher were suffering from high fever in past few days.

The couple underwent COVID test at the Bijepur Community Health Centre (CHC) and the result came positive. After the health condition of Chahal Meher deteriorated, she was admitted to the VIMSAR in Burla, Sambalpur district, for treatment. Arjun returned to home with medicines for treatment.

The distressed septuagenarian however ended his life by hanging himself with a rope at his home on Friday.

On receiving information, the Bijepur police lodged a case and sent the body to Bargarh for post-mortem.

After 24 hours of the incident, the deceased person’s wife who was undergoing treatment for COVID at the VIMSAR succumbed to the virus on Saturday morning.

The demise of couple in 24 hours has shattered their family and the residents the village as well.
