Bhubaneswar, Sept 9:

Protesting the United States of America’s proposed attack on Syria, hundreds of activists of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation Odisha State Committee, carrying placards bearing slogans against US government, staged a demonstration in front of the State Assembly here on Monday.

“We call upon the people of the country to protest the USA’s conspiracy to grab oil and natural gas blocks from countries like Iraq, Libya and Syria,” said CPI (ML) Liberation national general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, adding, “We also request the American Congress not to allow the Obama Government to go ahead with the attack on Syria.”

“USA has no rights to attack on Syria like its previous military actions against Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan,” said a party leader. If the ongoing UN inquiry finds evidence of use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime, action can be taken under UN auspices, he said.

The leaders of the party condemned what they called the double standards of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue. Capitalist nation America’s plan to choke the throat of democracy and freedom of a country can’t be allowed, they added.
