CPI, SP stage rail roko to protest raw deal to Odisha in rail budget

Bhubaneswar, July 9:

The Communist Party of India (CPI) and Samajwadi Party today staged a rail roko at Bhubaneswar Railway Station here to protest FDI in Railway and Center’s neglect towards Odisha in the Railway Budget.

Hundreds of supporters of the two outfits, holding party flags, banners and shouting anti-government slogans slammed the Centre for its negligence towards Odisha state in allocation of funds in the Railway sector, which they said is much less this time.

Workers of the CPI led by national body member Ramakrushna Panda came in a procession from the party office to railway station and staged rail roko stopping the Rajdhani Express for an hour demanding more allocation for the State in the Railway Budget.

Samajwadi Party workers, led by party’s State president Rabi Behera, also staged rail roko in the railway station protesting FDI in Railway which they said would lead to privatisation of the largest public sector firm in the country.

They also staged demonstration in front of the railway station demanding more allocation for Odisha in the next railway budget for completion of several important railway projects like Khordha-Balangir and Paradip-Haridaspur.
