Rourkela, Jan 18:

Protesting the decision of the Odisha government to allow South Korean steel company Posco to explore mining in Khandadhar and Malangtoli, the Khandadhara Suraksha Samiti, under the banner of Sundargarh District Committee of CPI-M has decided to launch a massive protest.

“The decision of the state and the Central government would have a great negative impact on the lives of the people in 15 gram panchayats in Bonai subdivision”, CPM state secretariat member Bishnu Mohanty said in a press briefing here on Friday.

“The flora and fauna of Khandadhara region would vanish forever. Apart from this, extensive mining in the region would lead to groundwater depletion,” he said, adding that the region would also lose its tourism glory.
