Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: Nothing says “stuffed” more than a sumptuous plateful of biryani with raita. Biryani is a complete meal in itself, without the fuss of racking your brains on deciding a starter or an entrée.

  1. Green Chillyz

Green Chillyz provides a plethora of eatables on its menu, but its chicken tikka biryani is what will leave you licking the plate. Made in the Hyderabadi style, this birayani has a perfect blend of ingredients, without being super-oily and the harmony between the rice coupled with the well-marinated chicken tikka make for a flavoursome delight. Though a biryani needs no accompanying dish, one can also enjoy half a plate of tangdi kabab with it.

2. Biryani Box

If you are looking to satiate your biryani cravings with a homely meal, Biryani Box is the place you are looking for. Pocket friendly, though a little crowded at times, the USP of this joint are the chicken tikka biryani and the tangdi biryani. They also serve themed biryanis on occasions like the Republic Day.

One can wash it down with a refreshing glass of their “classic lemonade” or soft drinks. This biryani is served in a regular, family or party pack depending upon the number of guests. A mini biryani with soft drinks at just Rs. 99 is a favourite among students.

3. Shiraz

The mother of all biryani joints in the capital city is Shiraz Golden restaurant. Known for its Awadhi-style of biryani, the mutton and chicken biryani, though low on spices have a unique aroma and taste to them. For a scrumptious Sunday lunch, couple the biryani with chicken kasturi kebab or murg mussallam and don’t forget to finish the meal with a firni!

4. Bollywood

Though the mutton dum biryani at Bollywood restaurant may be a little over your budget, it is worth every penny spent. Cooked with authentic spices that are brought from Kolkata and Hyderabad, the chicken biryani here is made only at guest’s request. Biryani accompanied by the delectable chicken rezalla is a must-try here.

5. Deep Food Corner aka Dada biryani

Established in 2003, it is a very popular food joint in Cuttack. The biryani that they serve is special because of the home-made ingredients and the plentiful quantity of biryani masala used. Well-cooked rice, rich flavour and balanced spices make it palatable. Their mutton and chicken biryanis can be paired up with mutton keema or poda chicken/mutton. Paneer biryani is also one of their specialties aimed at serving vegetarians.

6. Hotel Royal

One of the first places to serve dum biriyani in Cuttack with inspiration from both Hyderabadi and Lucknowi dum biriyani, is “Royal”. Begun in 1989, the biryani here is prepared with hand-made masalas and is pure dum biriyani. Around 200 kgs of biryani is cooked per meal. One can relish the mutton or chicken biryani with mutton goti kabab.

7. Jagmohan Restaurant

A famous restaurant serving an array of dishes, Jagmohan is most popular for its “Cuttacki biryani”. Rather than making their biriyani too spicy, they prefer to use limited amount of masala. What attracts customers is the unique aroma emanating from their biryani and it is a secret essence that they are proud of. Consistence and quality have been their priority. Chilly chicken, mutton keema and masala cold drinks complement their chicken and mutton biryani.

8. Hashim’s Restaurant

Opened in January 2015, a new entrant to the world of food business, Hashim’s has successfully carved a niche for itself within two years. Their biryani has become quite popular due to its balanced taste and alluring aroma. Pahadi chicken is a good accompaniment with both their mutton and chicken biryani.
