Cuttack: Muslims across Odisha will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr tomorrow (Saturday) to mark the completion of the holy month of Ramadan also known as Ramzan.

Head of All Odisha Chand Committee (AOCC), Mufti Wajibul Kamar, today announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday.

The holy month of Ramadan began on May 16 this year with the moon sighting committee of Cuttack– Anjuman Islamia Committee—announcing the sighting of the new moon.

Ramadan— the ninth month of the Islamic calendar—ends with Eid-ul-Fitr depending on the calendar it takes either 29 or 30 days.

The Muslims follow a lunar calendar and wait for the appearance of full moon to celebrate the festival towards the end of the holy month.

It is the month of fasting, Muslims don’t eat or drink anything from dawn until sunset. Besides, they indulge in prayers, charity and religious activity.

Fasting is meant to teach the person patience and humility. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of God, to offer even more prayer than normal and ask forgiveness for the sins of the past and ask for guidance in the future.
