Rape accused cop arrested from forest in Odisha

Cuttack: The Odisha Crime Branch today nabbed the dismissed Inspector In-Charge of Biramitrapur police station in Sundargarh district for the cop’s alleged involvement in rape and abortion of a minor girl.

Official sources said the Crime Branch traced and arrested Biramitrapur IIC Ananda Chandra Majhi from a forested area under Handapa Police Station of Angul district. He will be produced in the judicial court after a brief questioning.

Earlier in the day, DGP Odisha, Abhay dismissed Majhi from service for allegedly raping the minor girl and his involvement in her abortion in Raiboga area.

Yesterday the DGP ordered to hand over the case to Crime Branch to investigate the matter.

Majhi and four others are accused of raping the minor girl over four months. Also, a government doctor allegedly helped the accused to terminate pregnancy of the girl at Biramitrapur Community Health Centre on June 15.
