Crime Branch nabs notorious drug peddler in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch today nabbed a notorious drug peddler from Cuttack Road area under Laxmisagar police station limits here today. The sleuths also seized 674 grams brown sugar and Rs 11 lakh cash from the peddler’s possession.

The accused, Jamshed is a native of West Bengal and had been operating his illegal drug trade from Balasore. He, however, came to Bhubaneswar today to deliver brown sugar to some illegal drugs trader in Haladipadia slum. Acting on reliable information, the STF had put Jamshed on its tracking. When the drug peddler reached Cuttack Road, the sleuths nabbed him.

As per latest reports, the sleuths have been quizzing Jamshed an unknown location to elicit information about his network and illegal contraband trade. Sources said Jamshed had been supplying brown sugar across the State.

To thwart attempts of drug peddlers to sell contraband items, the Quick Action Team of the Commissionerate Police, Excise department and STF have intensified their operations. In the past 11 days, the STF has nabbed 11 brown sugar peddlers following raids at different places in Puri, Balasore, Angul, Khordha, Pipili, Dhenkanal and Bhubaneswar.

Earlier, the Crime Branch had arrested Chhota and Sk Raja for their alleged involvement in drug peddling. The sleuths have arrested 140 persons under Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in last three years.
