Crime Branch team formed to probe recovery of fake COVID drugs in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: On the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,  a special team of Odisha Crime Branch was formed today to probe the alleged seizure of counterfeit COVID-19 drugs in different parts of the state.

The team held a discussion with Drugs Controller Annada Sankar Das today.

After the discussion, Das said, “we are in touch with the Crime Branch after the CM’s direction. We will fully cooperate in the investigation.”  However, he did not divulge further details on the alleged matter as the investigation is underway.

Worth mentioning, Drugs Inspectors of different districts had seized spurious drugs in Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Bhubaneswar on June 11, a day after a huge quantity of spurious Favipiravir tablets were recovered in Cuttack.

Later, Health and Family Welfare Department Additional Chief Secretary PK Mohapatra had directed Odisha State Medical Corporation Ltd and the police to jointly probe into the matter and submit a report.
