Jagatsinghpur: The Odisha Vigilance on Sunday arrested Dr. Siba Prasad Sethi, Medical Officer at the Community health Centre in Kujang, on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe in exchange for issuing a favourable post-mortem report.

According to the complaint filed with the Vigilance Department, Dr. Sethi had conducted an autopsy on a woman who allegedly died due to food poisoning.

The complainant, the deceased’s husband, requested an early issuance of the post-mortem report for insurance-related purposes. However, Dr. Sethi allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 to provide a favourable report promptly.

As the death occurred within seven years of marriage, the report was considered critical for further proceedings. Unable to meet the unethical demand, the complainant approached the Vigilance Department, leading to a trap being laid.

Dr. Sethi was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount at his clinic in Cuttack through his receptionist, Sri Choudhury. The entire bribe amount was recovered and seized by the Vigilance team. Both the doctor and his receptionist have been arrested.

Meanwhile, simultaneous searches are being carried out at five locations linked to Dr. Sethi to investigate possible disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under Case No. 19/2025, U/s 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway.
