Criminal nabbed after police encounter in Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: A criminal was nabbed following an encounter with police near Charimaili Chhak in Odisha’s Ganjam district, late last night.

According to police sources, P. Sibasankar Dora (32) alias Tingiri, the criminal, was travelling on a motorcycle riding pillion when a police team, acting on a tip-off, tried to intercept the vehicle around 12.30 am.

In a bid to escape, Tingiri opened fire at the cops. In retaliation by police, he sustained bullet injuries on his left knee and fell from the two-wheeler. However, the person who was driving the motorbike managed to flee.

As many as two policemen were also injured in the exchange of fire. Tingiri was initially admitted to Aska hospital and later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.

A registration number plate-less motorcycle, a gun and two bullets have been seized from his possession, police sources said, adding that he was allegedly involved in a firing incident.
