Crop damage in 3.84 lakh ha due to unseasonal rain in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Crop damage has been reported in 3.84 lakh hectares of land across 19 districts of the State due to unseasonal rain, informed Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Bishnupada Sethi, here today.

“19 districts have reported crop damage. We have received reports of 33 percent and above crop damage in 135 blocks which include 15,000 villages in 2453 Gram Panchayats (GPs), 161 wards in 35 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Crop damage has been reported in a total of 3.84 lakh hectares of land,” explained Sethi to reporters.

The SRC made the announcement on the basis of crop damage assessment reports received from district collectors.

Notably, district collectors were directed on November 18 to submit crop damage assessment report of their respective districts by November 25.

The State government is likely to announce agriculture input subsidy for the affected farmers soon, sources said.
